BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), known locally as metrobus is a very important means of transport since it’s one of the most efficient way to cross the Bosporus and pass from European ( Beylikduzu) to Asian side ( Sogutlucesme).
That’s the reason why it’s always crowded and lately commuters have been complaining about enormous mass especially during rush hours. Although municipality put in service many vehicles and set up a long time schedule with frequent shuttles, the problem persists.
Facing this situation, Istanbul municipality brought new metrobuses having bigger capacity in order to solve this issue and facilitate people transportation.
In fact, the new vehicles of 20m long, formed of 3 wagons have nearly the double capacity of the old ones and will be able to carry 280 passengers including 30 seats. Besides, the driver will have his own separate cabin to prevent him from distraction and to guarantee a safe trip.
They are currently being tested for 10 days now, starting with load tests first to be later tried with commuters.
The new vehicles were produced in Bursa by an Iran-based factory.
