The transport and Infrastructure minister, Mehmet Cahit Turhan has announced in the beginning of this month that Yenikapi Cruise Port will enter in service soon even though he didn’t precise an exact date.
The launching of this project would rectify the lack of ports especially in Istanbul and this would help to refresh cruise tourism in Turkey.
Regarding the importance of Cruise tourism in the world, Turkey is tending to make Istanbul one of the biggest cruise centers in the Mediterranean area and to increase its share of the world cruise tourism income to $ 1.5 Billion.
In fact, Turkey is aiming for a 3 million cruise capacity through the construction of this port that will host a 30,000 Sqm passenger lounge with a 3,000m dock and 500 yacht capacity marine terminal constructed on a an area of 120,000 Sqm.
In the same context, we should remind that Galataport, the mega port project will be finished by March 2020 to become one of Istanbul’s and Turkey’s biggest Cruise hubs. It is planned to receive 500 ships with 4000 passengers each.
